Spotlight on Andy Hogan

Tell us about Andy

I was born and raised in Dublin, Ireland, and have called Perth, Australia home since 2009. My journey began with a degree in Geology from Trinity College Dublin, followed by an MSc in Applied Geophysics from the National University of Ireland, Galway. I’ve worked across Ireland, the North Sea, Asia Pacific and now Australia -  originally in rig-based roles, then later in leadership positions in drilling services.

Family is central to my life. I’m married to Kathryn, and we have three brilliant young adult children, all born in Aberdeen and thriving in the Australian lifestyle. When I’m not working, I enjoy being on the water. I rowed competitively at university, coached for a number of years, and today I’m a keen sailor, though currently between boats. I’m also a lifelong follower of rugby, especially the Six Nations.

Why did you join Stepwise?

I first heard about Stepwise through industry connections and eventually got to know Finlay Johnston. What caught my attention was the company’s commitment to reducing emissions through the smart implementation of technology. Having marketed MODUs like semi-subs and jackups in a previous role, I was impressed with the measurable impact Stepwise was achieving.

SaaS-based efficiency and emissions management is clearly the future — and to be honest, it’s the “next step” the industry has been waiting for.

Joining Stepwise offers me the opportunity to contribute to a mission I believe in: helping the offshore energy sector reduce emissions in a systematic, commercially grounded way.

What’s your focus in Stepwise?

I’m proud to be the Stepwise Representative for Oceania. My role is to help grow our presence in this region, build lasting relationships with clients, and ensure our solutions are tailored to the needs of operators here. I’ll be focusing on introducing our integrated energy efficiency platform to new markets, supporting our clients in establishing baselines, planning emission reduction strategies, and improving ESG data quality.

Ultimately, my job is about enabling operators to make better decisions, faster — and ensuring that our tools and advisory support them in achieving tangible, sustainable outcomes.
