On board Helix’s Well Enhancer with Anasuria, transforming good crew ideas into tangible savings

From 31 July to 12 August, Stepwise joined Anasuria Operating Company with Exceed and Helix on a well intervention in the Guillemot Field. The goal was clear: to maintain high performance, reduce avoidable fuel use, and simplify reporting.
Given the short duration of the P&A, we introduced Stepwise SmartSaver as an Emissions Reduction Initiative. It's a crew-led ERI that turns everyday observations into actions supported by the entire vessel. Focused prompts, briefs, and a straightforward method for gathering ideas to prevent them from being lost between shifts. The crew responded immediately. Special thanks to James Byrne at Exceed, who was the driving force behind the campaign and put in significant effort to generate the number of observations we captured.
Focus areas
- Turn off idle equipment and deck machinery
- Smarter lighting in unoccupied spaces
- Practical galley and laundry routines
- Compressed air and ventilation housekeeping
- Handover notes so savings stick across shifts
What changed
- Ideas were logged within hours, and actions were taken
- Reusable bottles backed up the habit change the crew requested
- Supervisors saw a mindset shift on power use, plus cleaner handovers because actions were documented and owned
- The result is a repeatable playbook for future campaigns
Why this matters
Operational clarity reduces cost, repeated tasks and emissions. Stepwise provides offshore teams with a single source of truth for energy and emissions data, then supports crews with SME expertise, enabling informed decisions. Our expert-led SaaS solution typically delivers 10 to 15% fuel savings within 12 months, and it makes ESG and regulatory reporting less of a chore.
The result?
Good Toolbox Talks with bridge officers before engaging Green DP. Wind speed, direction, sea heights, power management, thruster setup, rotation centres, and green parameters were all discussed to reduce thrust, power consumption, and spinning reserve.
During any lull in subsea operations, we advised the ROV crew to stand by on the seabed without any trims or thrust. Reducing our draw on the systems by about 20%.
The feedback
“On-board the team demonstrated that a light-touch, data-driven approach works well in practice. We reduced idle power, the crew had a simple system and permission to act, the operation was safe, efficient, and transparent regarding emissions. That is the way!” — Pål Erik Vang, Chief Engineer, Stepwise.
“Stepwise SmartSaver complemented the way we work at AOC. Observation cards and short briefs made it easy for supervisors to reinforce actions. The tone stayed positive, with safety first and efficiency always in view. We're looking forward to the next one” — Morag Kidd, HSEQ Manager, Anasuria Operating Company.
