Tell us about Magnus

My name is Magnus, a 39-year-old originally from Norway. I’m relocating to Oslo from Munich to begin my new role as CFO at Stepwise, accompanied by my partner, Susanne.

I’ve also previously lived in the UK for an extended period. I hold an MBA from the Norwegian School of Economics (NHH) and have broad professional experience in financial management, developing and managing businesses within the tech sector internationally.

In my personal life, I’m an outdoors enthusiast and enjoy challenging myself through mountain sports like climbing, biking, ski touring, and air sports such as paragliding and skydiving. I also really enjoy travelling and exploring, especially visiting great cities around the world to enjoy local culture and food.

Why did you join Stepwise?

Joining Stepwise as CFO was a natural progression for me. I was drawn to Stepwise by the vision and leadership presented by Matt and Per-Robert, as well as the impression I got from the rest of the management team with their strong team culture and drive to create.

My decision to join was easy, allowing me to utilize my background in finance and technology within a company that values and drives sustainability. At Stepwise, I found a unique chance to contribute to something meaningful and transformative, where I could also leverage my skills to promote sustainability and contribute to something larger.

What's your focus in Stepwise?

As CFO of Stepwise, my primary focus is on building a robust and sustainable finance function. This involves establishing strong financial foundations and systems that support scalable growth and enable us to meet our goals.

My tasks include financial reporting and planning, managing risks, ensuring compliance, and overseeing the cash flow and capital structure. All while maintaining close communication with investors and other stakeholders such as the Board of Directors or financial institutions. I work closely with the team to shape the company’s strategy and to identify opportunities for expansion and efficiency in our organization. Additionally, I aim to leverage my background in IT consulting and tech to bring valuable insights and innovation to our business operations and customer relationships.
